Taman Ujung Water Palace

Taman Ujung Water Palace as Bali Cultural Park Tourism Object

Not only beaches and natural tourist attractions. But it also has an interesting historical place. Taman Ujung Karangasem is one of them. This place is widely known as the location of favorite prewedding photos in Bali and is known as a water palace inherited from the Kingdom of Karangasem.

Taman Ujung is located in Banjar Ujung which belongs to the Tumbu Village area in Karangasem Regency, Bali. To get to this one tourist spot, the best way that can be used is to use private vehicle rental services. Moreover, the availability of public transportation to this place is very minimal.

While the distance from the city of Denpasar is not so far away, only about 80 km and can be reached within 3 hours by motorized vehicle. Taman Ujung Karangasem is like a hidden paradise because it is located in a remote area and far from the hustle of the city. This park is also known as Taman Ujung Sukasada which is located on the east end of the island of Bali on the beach.

There are 2 artificial lakes and 1 pond in the south and north which have different functions.

Three artificial ponds or lakes are separated by extensive grasslands and road access as a route to get around the park. Above the southern lake there is an open pavilion building with a surrounding lawn on the water and called the Kambang Hall.

The pavilion's location protrudes to the northern edge and the building is used as a place to chat with state guests and banquets so the atmosphere is more relaxed without interruption. The shape of the building is only a multi-storey floor with a tile roof supported by many poles on the edge of the floor. In each park surrounding the Kambang Hall building there are pots with various types of plants.

Three artificial ponds or lakes are separated by extensive grasslands and road access as a route to get around the park. Above the southern lake there is an open pavilion building with a surrounding lawn on the water and called the Kambang Hall.

The location of the pavilion is rather prominent to the north end and the building is used as a place to chat with state guests and banquets so the atmosphere is more relaxed without interruption. The shape of the building is only a multi-storey floor with a tile roof supported by many poles on the edge of the floor. In each park surrounding the Kambang Hall building there are pots with various types of plants.

There is a small, sturdy bridge building as access from the edge of the pool to go to the Kambang Hall. The shape of the bridge is indeed very beautiful and the building concept is typical of Bali, China and Europe. Anyone who walks on the bridge to Balai Kambang will pass 6 gates that are lined up every 2 meters with the shape of a building like the symbol of the kingdom of Karang Asem.

To the east there is a rectangular pool such as a bath or fish pond and the smallest size of three lakes. This pool is located on the highway leading to the beach so that the view of the sea can be seen clearly. To the south of the pool there are several shady trees that can be used to protect visitors. For swimming pools in the north of the largest size and above the water pool there is a large and magnificent building called the Bale Gili. The building is in the form of a house facing south and north because the entrance is in both directions. Bale Gili is also surrounded by a courtyard with surrounding gardens and every corner has a pot with ornamental plants on the water. The shape of the house is like a Dutch building with many colorful wooden windows and stained glass.

In the era of Dutch colonialism, the Ujung Garden was called the name Waterpalace, which means the palace of water. Many brides choose Taman Ujung Karangasem as the location of their favorite prewedding photos because this building has amazing architecture.

The park, known as Sukasada Park was built in 1909 at the request of the King of the Karangasem Kingdom, I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, entitled Anak Agung Agung Ketut Karangasem Anglurah.

The construction of Ujung Karangasem Park was carried out using Dutch architectural services van Den Hentz and Chinese architecture named Loto Ang. Even so, this water palace building was made using Balinese architectural designs. The construction of this palace, initially was in the expansion section of the Dirah Pond which was built in 1901.

Construction of this water palace takes a long time. Just imagine, only in 1921 the construction of the Ujung Park was officially completed. Furthermore, the palace which was recorded as a private ownership right of the Karangasem Kingdom family made marble inscriptions read in two languages, namely Balinese and Malay.

Unfortunately, the existence of this water palace was eroded by the times. At the beginning of its construction, Taman Ujung Karangasem had an area of 400 hectares. However, currently the area of the water palace complex is only 10 hectares. The reason for the lack of land in this palace was because most of the area was shared with people during the land reform period.

In addition, the Ujung Karangasem Park also suffered severe damage. Damage occurred precisely in 1963. The damage was caused by the eruption of Mount Agung, known as the highest mountain on the island of Bali. Furthermore, the Provincial Government of Bali also made improvements to the condition of the building in this place. This included the renovation process in 2000. The renovation process was carried out without changing the original design of the building.
